Outdoor Activities

Simon’s Town is a dream come true for any visitors with a love of the great outdoors and an adventurous spirit, with a wide variety of activities on your doorstep, both on land and at sea.

The mountains behind the town offer great hiking opportunities and spectacular views of the town and the False Bay coastline. Various trails run from the Rocklands Centre just past Boulder’s Beach. This side of town also has a picturesque golf course overlooking the ocean. Meanwhile the weaving coastal road that passes through town and winds all the way down to Cape Point is a favourite with cyclists.

Simon’s Town has a beautiful selection of calm and sheltered beaches, many of which are popular spots for a morning walk, for setting off on a sea kayak down the coastline, or for taking scuba diving lessons in the shallower water, before heading down to Miller’s Point and jumping off the rocks to dive amongst the peaceful cow sharks, which can grow up to 2 metres in length. Scuba Diving courses and trips can be booked at Pisces Divers in Glencairn, just five minutes by car from Simon’s Town.

Visitors can also take boat tours with experienced guides from Simon’s Town harbour, whether to go and see the amazing Southern Right whales up close and personal, or for visits to the seal colony at Seal Island and Cape Point tours. There are also other ocean tour operators in the town centre where whale watching and Great White shark cave diving excursions can be booked.
